Buying guide 2017 to buy a Smartphone (10000-20000 INR)

This Buying guide will help you to choose the best phone for yourself which perfectly fits your needs and expectations. This guide will focus on mid range phones because this is the segment which accounts for major part of smartphone sales at least in India. So the pricing could be around 10000- 20000 Indian rupees. If you are looking for a phone in that price segment, this guide will help you.

Buying Guide-Screen Size, Form Factor, and Screen Resolution

The most common screen size in this price bracket is 5.5 inches. In my opinion, that is the sweet spot between usability and content consumption. It is perfect for smartphones in this price segment because the phones do not have fancy bezel-less displays.

In 2017, you need at least a Full HD smartphone. Go for a phone with a screen resolution of 1080p. LCD panel and AMOLED panel are two types of displays used in this range smartphones. AMOLED displays are gorgeous and save you battery. AMOLED panels also display punchy colors. Blacks are real black on AMOLED panels. You can save your battery by customizing with a black wallpaper and themes. Overall AMOLED displays are better than LCD displays. Prefer AMOLED over LCD.

Buying Guide-Processor

Primarily, go for a Snapdragon chipset. Exynos by Samsung or Kirin by Huewai is also a good option. Try to avoid MediaTek chipsets. When you come to Snapdragon, in this price bracket most of the phones are equipped with Snapdragon 625, most common and efficient chipset is 625, also you can go for 650 or 653.

RAM and Storage.

Do pick a phone with a RAM of at least 3 Gb. Nowadays a RAM of 4Gb is being a Standard in this price segment.

Opt for smartphones with at least 32 GB of internal storage, go for a 64 Gb if available. 64 Gb is a better choice because most of the phones have a hybrid slim slot with no dedicated memory slot. This compromises external storage if you need both sims working. So 64 GB storage is better over 32 Gb.

Buying Guide-Camera

When looking at the camera, don’t fall for Megapixels. Go for a camera with wider aperture and better sensor quality. Do watch all the camera reviews on youtube before buying the device. Front camera should have a good amount of details and a wide field of you. Do check the camera shots yourself if it is available offline with retailers.

Buying Guide-Battery

Battery life of the device is most important at least for me. A smartphone battery should at least run you a day. Pick a phone with at least 3000 mah battery. More battery capacity is always a better choice. Look for Fast Charging Support which is really useful.

Do pick a phone with USB Type C and avoid Micro USB as the world is switching to USB type C.
