Google dropped Google Instant – No Search Results as You Type
Google Instant was launched in 2010. With Google Instant in place, as you type search results will come up. This was considered as a fundamental shift in search at that time.
There has been a rapid increase in the number of mobile users from then. More than 50 percent of Google searches are on the Mobile platform only. Showing up results while searching on mobile takes up more resources and makes search slow. So Google decided to stop this feature. A Google Spokesperson explained to Search Engine Land:
“We launched Google Instant back in 2010 with the goal to provide users with the information they need as quickly as possible, even as they typed their searches on desktop devices. Since then, many more of our searches happen on mobile, with very different input and interaction and screen constraints. With this in mind, we have decided to remove Google Instant, so we can focus on ways to make Search even faster and more fluid on all devices.”
So with this in effect, you won’t see any search results as you type, but you will get search suggestion while you type. You need to click on the suggestions to get the search results. Google will show up results only after you hit Enter button.
